This site aims at
raising the awareness of this devastating disease for the older person.
Work currently being
undertaken in the Department of Optometry and Neuroscience, Faculty of
Life Science, at the University of Manchester in the UK, in conjunction
with Tinsley Medical Instruments, UK indicates an example of the progress
being made in this direction.
THE HEALTH OF THE AGEING EYE
VOLUNTEERS STILL NEEDED (May 2008)
A
research group at University of Manchester is looking for volunteers to take
part in a new study to find out whether taking lutein supplements can improve
their vision.
If
you live in the Manchester area and are aged over 60 or have been diagnosed
with the very early stage macular-degeneration, then we would be interested
in studying your eyes.

The Prime Ministers Office has now replied to our petition. (View Reply)
We
the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to Support the supply of free
dietary supplementation to reduce disease in the elderly such as AMD.
Encourage government
to investigate reducing NHS and DHSS costs by supporting low cost dietary
supplementation as a way of reducing disease in the elderly. One example
being the supply of free Lutein and Zeaxanthin dietary supplementation to
those identified as having or being at risk of suffering Age Related Macular
Degeneration (AMD) in their later years. AMD is the leading cause of blindness
in the elderly.
